Wyland visits Keys Diver
 
 

We've always wanted a mural on the walls of the store, but we never anticipated world famous artist Wyland being a part of our dream! It all began with a trip to our Key Largo Benjamin Moore store, Rock Harbor Paint where I began discussing the idea with Lee, the store's owner.

Lee told me about 13 year old Guy Snell, a local Key Largo artist. Guy became fascinated with the works of Wyland and actually took ten days off school to watch as the master painted an entire building in Key Largo. (Photo below)

  Guy sketched his own drawings as he watched. Wyland was so impressed with the young artist that he invited him to take part in a massive wall mural painting in China. Since then Guy has become the Youth Ambassador for Wyland and is frequently coached by him.  
 
   
  Lee suggested that if we wanted to take a chance on a young artist, Guy was our man. We met with him the next day and were so impressed with his work that we immediately offered him the job. He began sketching and set out to paint his first commercial mural. The following day Wyland showed up at Keys Diver to offer encouragement and praise for the soon to be masterpiece.

UPDATE: July 14th 2009

Guy has finished the mural in the store and is currently working on the exterior of the building. Our target completion date is Friday August 7th 2009 - Keys Diver's 20th Birthday Party!!!
